TV Reception ConditionsThe town of Henley-on-Thames lies in a valley which blocks TV signals from the two main regional transmitters in the area. (In London and near Newbury). The town has its own local transmitter on the far side of the river. Most of the houses in the centre of the town have aerials receiving from this local transmitter. This Henley transmitter only delivers analogue signals, not digital, and then only channels one to four. The Henley transmitter will not deliver digital TV until the switchover in 2012, when the analogue signals will be switched off. There are parts of the town where even this transmitter cannot be easily received. The worst reception area is Deanfield road and Valley Road and the closes off of these roads. Here there are lots of tall masts to improve reception.
For those wishing to receive a range of digital TV before 2012 in Henley-on-Thames, there is now the option of having a satellite installation to receive BBC / ITV Freesat. As satellite TV installers, we can carry out a dish installation in Henley instead of a digital aerial installation to get you digital TV this way. Because these satellite installations are fairly cheap, they are sometimes lower cost than even an aerial repair in Henley-on-Thames.
Oxford Aerials provides a complete Sky satellite installation service and is an approved Sky registered agent. We provide domestic and commercial tv aerial installation services. No job too big or small. Call 01865 400141 for a free quotation.
Outside of the town, television reception generally improves as the ground is higher and more level and signals from the two regional transmitters generally works. This allows for digital reception.
The main exceptions are Lower Shiplake where there are some weak spots and the Stonor and Assenden Valley where television signals from Crystal Palace and Hannington are both blocked. There are local transmitters in Assenden and Skirmett which feed their local villages but as with the Henley on Thames transmitter, there will be no digital signals until 2012. As in Henley, BBC / ITV Freesat is increasingly a solution in these areas. Our digital aerial installers can advise you as to your options as part of a free survey.
